A legend of film music has died. Lalo Schifrin, composer of the score for Mission: Impossible , has died at the age of 93, Argentina's Secretary of Culture announced on X , confirming a report from the American magazine Variety . "It is with great sadness that we receive the news of the loss of Lalo Schifrin, a musical genius who transcended borders and generations, and whose legacy will forever extend into the cultural history of our country and the world," wrote Leonardo Cifelli.

Variety reports that the musical genius died of pneumonia. In addition to the iconic Mission: Impossible theme song, Lalo Schifrin's heyday was in the 1960s and 1970s, composing the soundtracks for Cool Hand , Dirty Harry , and Bullitt . In November 2018, he became only the third composer in history to receive an honorary Oscar from Clint Eastwood.
